The Kerman pistachio is the most widespread variety in California's Central Valley, and almost all commercial pistachio production comes from Kerman.
Kerman is a female variety and requires Peters for cross-pollination. A long hot summer is needed to ripen pistachios. Transplant carefully and do not disturb the roots. Pistachios grow very slowly to about 20-30 feet and are drought tolerant once established.
Site and Soil: Pistachios like 1/2 day of full sun and well-drained soil without a low water table.
