Kaki Vanilla is an old variety originally from Italy. The fruits are large, round, slightly flattened, yellow-orange, later orange. The flesh is orange with a hint of vanilla.
It bears fruit in the second to third year after planting. The variety is self-pollinating.
Diospyros kaki (Dios fruit), Japanese persimmon, ebony tree, Asian persimmon, Sharon fruit, Korean mango, honey apple. Persimmons are hidden under these names. Deciduous slow-growing trees that require a sheltered sunny site with a soil pH of around 6 - 7. They do not tolerate high groundwater levels or acidic soil. They grow to a width of 10 m and a height of 10 m, grafted about 6 meters. Mature trees are relatively drought tolerant. The fruits are harvested only after full ripening. Cut off (do not tear!), leave the calyx with a short stem, wrap in plastic bags. Store at 0 °C, it will last in good condition for up to 2 months.
