The Titus cornelian cherry is our native, very hardy fruit variety that does not require any chemical protection.
We can also use it for planting in ornamental beds and hedges, the added value of which will be healthy fruit with a high content of vitamins obtained without chemicals.
The vitamin C content in its fruits reaches up to 200 mg per 100 grams of fruit and the sugar content is up to around 20%.
The fruits are suitable for direct consumption and for processing.
The Titus variety ripens in late August.
It forms dark red fruits, slightly pear-shaped, which are almost black when ripe for consumption.
They have a high proportion of pulp.
Shrubs or small trees (depending on their type of shaping) are characterized by regular and abundant fertility.
Adult bushes produce an average of up to 30 kilograms of fruit.
They are very resistant to winter frosts and frosts do not damage their flowers either.
They are therefore also suitable for marginal and foothill areas.
They live to a great age.
They bloom early in the spring, already in the first half of March, which is why they are very valuable for beekeepers.
Titus is partially cross-pollinated, so it is advisable to grow at least one other variety at the same time.
suitable pollinator is the Devín variety.
As an unshaped shrub, it grows to a height of 3.5 meters, with hanging fertile foliage.
Its main shoots are long and upright.
It grows best in direct sunlight, in neutral and alkaline soils with plenty of humus and moisture.
