- The 'Reto' ® blackthorn is a large-fruited rarity. His name already hints at one of his attributes. Unlike the wild original form, the cultivation of 'Reto' ® produces significantly larger and less acidic fruits. The fruit, known as an ingredient in many delicacies, could not previously be harvested before the first frost. Their bitter taste was not suitable for every delicate palate. With the breeding of the wild form, lovers of sweet and sour tastes will now find their way. The juicy cherry-sized fruits of the cultivar Prunus spinosa 'Reto' ® ripen in September or October, before the first frosts of the year. Thanks to fewer thorns on the branches, harvesting is no longer difficult. Like the wild species, the 'Reto' ® thorn in the spring impresses with the beauty of its white flowers. The cute flowers emit a pleasant sweet almond scent and are a magnet for insects at the beginning of the year.
- The upright growth of thistle / thorn 'Reto' ® is a significant advantage especially for smaller gardens. Prunus spinosa 'Reto' ® thrives as a low trunk and does not form root shoots like other plants of this species. A small fruit tree can be planted without complex root barriers. A sunny to semi-shady location is important for abundant flowering and a lush harvest. The soil should be permeable and slightly alkaline. Not quite undemanding thorn / thorn 'Reto' ® loves nutrient-rich, calcareous soil. It develops equally well in sandy, stony, loamy soil. The noble breeding of thistle is flexible when it comes to its use in the garden. It is suitable as a solitary or group plant, privacy or wind protection, as a slope attachment to steeper embankments and as a garden border. Gardeners should definitely not miss the valuable fruits of the thorn / thorn ́Reto ́ ®, which are known as superfoods. Sea buckthorn fruits are not only considered a cure for colds and fevers, stomach problems or inflammation, but are also a great base for delicious jams, vitamin-rich juices or fine liqueur.
