- This deciduous shrub comes from the family Rutaceae and is the only representative of the genus Poncirus.
- It grows to a height of 3-5 m and forms a spreading, not very dense bush.
- The homeland of this species is Korea. It is a close relative of citrus.
- It is not very common in our conditions, because it is very demanding on heat.
- The entire bush is covered with thorns up to 5 cm long. The leaves are green, three-lobed.
- In April, white five-pointed flowers appear on the bush, which do not have a very strong smell compared to citrus.
- The fruit are 3-5 cm large felt fruits resembling lemons.
- When ripe, they are pale yellow. Their taste is very bitter and the fruits are full of seeds.
- That is why this species is used more as a rootstock for citrus cultivation.
- Lemon plant is undemanding to soil type, it is important that the soil is sufficiently moist.
- In our country, it only grows in the warmest areas, because if the annuals do not mature enough during the season, they will freeze over the winter.
- It is rather a rarity for lovers of non-traditional species.
