- Mulberry with us in the past they were very popular fruits. The correct name for the trees on which mulberry trees grow is mulberry tree. But most people also call the trees short: mulberries. Silkworms have so-called false fruits - they are formed by the thickening of the petals, which cover the individual fruits with an achene.
- Depending on the variety, they can have fruits ranging in color from white to pink, red, crimson, purple to almost black. They are up to 2.5, in the case of the black mulberry, up to 3 cm. Trnava mulberry (Morus x trnaviensis), which is a hybrid of black and red mulberry, has the largest fruits. Its fruits are 3-4 cm long and 2.2-2.5 cm wide.
- Fruits ripen at tree from mid-June until August. The Trnava mulberry tree ripens at the beginning of July at the latest. Ripe fruits of dark mulberry trees tend to scare car owners. The dye acts more than "thoroughly". Therefore, before planting these trees, it is advisable to carefully consider the choice of location so that the falling fruits do not pollute places that are difficult to clean.
- Mulberry fruits can consume both raw and dried or heat-treated. We can also preserve them by freezing. They have a sweet to sweet-sour taste. Previously, they were used as a sweetener in baking or in various porridges. Compotes, jams, juices, syrups or wines are most often prepared from them.
