- 'Edith Bogue' - one of the hardiest cultivars of evergreen magnolia, can withstand temperatures down to -30°C.
- The leaves are stiff, elliptical, dark green on the upper side and dark rusty on the underside.
- It grows up to 8m tall. The flowers are white, 20 cm or more across, with a citrus-like fragrance.
- It flowers from spring onwards, lasting all summer.
- Growing. The soil should be fertile, moist but well-drained, with peat added (a mixture of compost, peat and sand is ideal).
- Grow the magnolia well mulched to prevent the soil from drying out.
- When digging around the magnolia, be careful of shallow roots.
- Avoid cutting magnolias if possible.
- Pruning is generally poorly tolerated; if necessary, very young plants can be shaped immediately after flowering.
- Magnolias are fully hardy to about -29°C. They flower during April and May.
