- Big-leaved cornelian cherry 'Swietljaczok' - a great, very
- fertile variety of dogwood of Ukrainian origin. Its main characteristic
- is its fruits, which are larger than the others. The weight of one fruit
- can reach up to 10 g. The habit of the shrub is rather spreading, growing to a height of 3
- m and a width of 2,5 m, depending on the growing conditions. The fruit ripens in early September.
- The taste is delicious, juicy and aromatic. They do not drop from the bush and have a longer shelf life. They are suitable for direct consumption and for further processing,
- e.g. for making marmalades, compotes, etc.
- Cultivation. It is best suited to neutral
- or slightly alkaline soils, sunny open positions, southern, south-eastern and
- south-western slopes. It can also tolerate drier conditions because it is deep rooted and
- can secure moisture even in conditions with unevenly distributed
- rainfall. It only needs more moisture during the ripening period, which according to
- is from August to September. It is fully hardy in wood and flower. We can
- grow it successfully up to an altitude of 600 m. It is not well suited to cold locations,
- especially those with frequent fog. It also does not tolerate
- shade or partial shade. It requires deeper pruning, especially after planting during the
- growing season. When planting the shrub, 3-5
- of the main branches are left, which are shortened by approximately one-third to one-half.
- Pruning is repeated for the first three years of cultivation. When planting a grafted tree,
- it is possible to grow a crown with or without a terminal (hollow crown)
