  • The edelweiss comes from Europe.
It is one of the lower species of edelweiss, growing only 2 to 3 meters in height.
In spring, it produces a multitude of white flowers arranged in inflorescences (Edelweiss is German for noble white).
These turn into smaller berries, first red, then blue to blue-black, which taste like blueberries.
Young leaves are hairy at first, later gray-green, turning yellow, orange to red in autumn.
Overall, the shrub is upright with an open crown, the branching is sparse.
The fruits ripen from June and contain a number of health-promoting substances.
The edelweiss prefers sun to partial shade and moist, permeable, rather calcareous soil.
It does not require an acidic substrate like blueberries.
It can also be grown as a hedge.
It grows to a maximum height of 3 meters. It is therefore suitable for smaller gardens.
It tolerates pruning well, the best time is early spring.
